CONDEMNED 2
[$29.90 nett]
Release: March 11, 2008
Condemned 2: Bloodshot picks up the story of former special investigator Ethan Thomas. Ethan has had a rough time since the events of the original Condemned, and now frequents bars and smells worse than a hobo. He is tormented by visions of the horrifying things he experienced as a member of the force, and can't shake his bad memories. However, when a strange message is left for the current members of the special forces, Ethan Thomas is forced to once again enter the underworld, where "Influenced" enemies with super-human strength and an other-worldly passion attack with an other-worldly viciousness. The "Influenced" encompass a host of people who used to be human, but have since been claimed in a most sinister and heinous way. One of the best things about the story in Condemned 2: Bloodshot is that it always keeps you guessing. As soon as you think you have figured something out, a new piece of evidence surfaces or alliances shift, and you're literally back to square one. While most games wait until the middle or end to reveal twists in the plot, Condemned 2: Bloodshot has its first significant plot twist right at the close of level one.

Like any good horror game, SAW provides us with a very creepy world to explore.
In it you play as a police officer from the SAW films,
David Tapp, who has to traverse through the trap-laden Whitehurst Insane Asylum.
The asylum's dark past of medieval tactics and patient abuse plays a big role in the game's creepy atmosphere, and there's a constant feeling of being watched,
because you are in fact being monitored by Amanda Young (Tapp's apprentice).
The asylum provides a decent variety of areas to explore, including a morgue,
crematorium, theaters, libraries, offices,
and a handful of other areas that all have an eroded, abandoned look,
since the asylum hasn't been active for some time.

Unfortunately, jumping to current gen consoles has been a difficult transition for the franchise. Last year's outing was a major step down for the series and this year's is only marginally better. It seems like the Japanese-made soccer franchise has lost something in translation. New additions like the famed UEFA Champions League license and an improved friendly A.I. go a long way to making it a more enjoyable experience. However, one can't help but get the feeling that Konami is trying to follow in the footsteps of EA. The problem is, they're unable to execute upon this strategy with nearly as much finesse and polish.

PROTOTYPE
[$39.90 nett]
Release: June 9, 2009
Prototype follows 18 days in the tainted life of Alex Mercer, a former GenTek employee turned into a weaponized guinea pig. Alex Mercer is the host for a deadly genetic virus that has given him superhuman powers. He can manipulate his body at a cellular level to not only jump higher or run faster - he can sprint up the sides of skyscrapers, skewer foes with his groundspikes, emit devastating death tendrils from his back, morph into the form of his victims and obtain their memories by consuming them, rip attack helicopters from the sky with his whipfists, and literally explode anyone that stands in his way with his supped-up body mass to name just a few of the powers he wields.
All of these abilities are honed and intensified via an easy-to-use leveling mechanic. As players complete missions and side objectives, new powers and skills become available for purchase. Players can then unlock these enhanced genetic traits by spending the Evolution Points (EP) they acquired from destroying infected and military targets, completing missions, and collecting various landmark and hint orbs strewn throughout the city.

YAKUZU 3
Release: March 9, 2010
Yakuza 3 continues the story of Kazuma Kiryu. This time, rather than duking it out exclusively on the tough streets of Tokyo and Osaka, Kazuma finds himself on the island of Okinawa (of Karate Kid fame) protecting the children of the Morning Glory orphanage. That's right; the "selfish" Yakuza life proved to be unsatisfactory to this former orphan-turned-Tojo Clan chairman, preferring to move away from his enemies to take up a more meaningful existence as the head of a sleepy island orphanage. Unfortunately, politics soon get in the way, forcing Kazuma to once again brawl his way to justice. While I know this recap seems a bit on the goofy side, the story told in Yakuza 3 is actually pretty engaging; certainly it does more than enough to prop up the somewhat repetitive action gameplay.
